Maternity Clothes and Fashion: What To Keep In Mind

Hey mumsies,

Was going through some stuff online and realised the huge change that's come over in the dressing sense of mums who are expecting babies - the way they dressed earlier to the way they dress now. While earlier, most mums in India would be hidden behind the saree or the salwar-kameez during those 'bump'y months, these days, it seems that mums love to flaunt the bump - and why not!

Showing off your bump in style is a great way to share this great news with those around, and of course to show off your 'to-be-pampered' state.......

With easy availability of maternity dresses these days - starting from your local shop to the nearest mall to the online selling portals that you can visit from the comfort of your bedroom - the designs and styles in maternity wear has gone up considerably.

Before we get into the style aspect, here are a few things to keep in mind while you are planning to buy some maternity wear:

  • Make sure all the clothes are loose and apply no sort of pressure, whatsoever, on the tummy, the abdomen, or any part of the body
  • During the coming 9 months, not only will your tummy expand, but other parts of your body, mostly the breasts, the hip area, legs, thighs, arms also do gain extra weight and inches (of course this varies from women to women and while some women gain a considerable amount of weight, some may not really do so). Don't buy all clothes at one go, instead, buy a few to go through 1-2 months, then depending on how much you are growing, buy again. This will give you a good idea of what size you need when.
  • Definitely go for clothes that are breathable - the best bet is always cottons.
  • To keep yourself comfortable, go for pregnancy bras - you can also opt for feeding bras that can be used both during pregnancy and after the delivery to help feed baby

Here's a look at some of the lovely maternity fashion pics I saw online..
